Cause-Related Marketing (CRM) is thought as an effective marketing strategy as the consumers have matured recently. When buying products of brands, the consumers consider the ethic of the brands and consumption value. This study was designed to figure out what type of message of CRM would be effective most when the consumers’ variables affect the effectiveness of the message. Accordingly, this study attempted to examine how the types of message (‘narrative message’ and ‘non-narrative message’) affect the consumers’ brand attitude and purchase intention. Especially it is focused on two consumers’ variables, including the levels of persuasion knowledge and consumer's prior preference for brands. The results show that the consumers who have low level of persuasion knowledge tend to have positive brand attitude and intention of purchase when they were exposed to the CRM message. The data of the consumers who have high level of persuasion knowledge showed the opposite results. About the interaction between the types of message and the level of persuasion knowledge, however, the data did not show statistical significance on the degree of brand attitude and purchase intention. However, the result of the average value and the appearance of graph showed same way as the hypothesis indicated. In addition, the result also showed statistical significance on the degree of brand attitude and intention of purchase when consumers had a prior preference for a particular brand. That is to say, the consumers, who already have product involvement and prior preference to another brand, tend to have more interest about the CRM message. The data showed the consumers have more positive brand attitude and active intention of purchase. This result is because the message was not about the product’s characteristic but about the CRM message. The data showed the consumers have more positive brand attitude and active intention of purchase. This result is because the message was not about the product’s characteristic but about cause-related marketing. So, it implies that marketers need to consider about consumers’ product involvement and prior preference of another brand, when they plan the marketing strategies of CRM relating to new brand launch. There have been many researches on the effects of CRM and the message types, however, the current study have attempted to investigate concurrently the effects of CRM as well as the effects of the message types on consumers variables.
