This study used AHP (analytic hierarchy process) to analyze the hierarchical orders of how PR practitioners perceive influential factors on media relations. At the first level, the organizational level was selected as the most important level, followed by personal-level and work-level. More specifically, at the organizational level, human resources in PR agencies were considered the most important factor, followed by reputation about PR agencies and size of PR agencies. At the personal level, communication ability was the most critical factor, followed by formal contact and private relationships with reporters. At the work level, offering valuable information was the most significant factor, followed by providing resources on reporting and writing skills for publicity. By combining the results at the first and second levels, human resources in PR agencies was the most influential factor on media relations, followed by reputation of PR agencies, communication ability, offering valuable information, formal contacts, size of PR agencies, providing resources on reporting, private relationships with reporters, and writing skills for publicity. The results were similar regardless of PR practitioners’ varied work experiences. The results of this study offer some positive directions for establishing and developing sound media relations in the Korean society.
