This research examined how the presence experience in trans-media can produce pleasure through media and have a positive effect on a brand. The presence experience occurs through presence and the presence effect. A path model was verified using brand relationship quality, brand attitude, and word-of-mouth (WOM) intention as result variables. The study also examined the influence of the moderating effect of sense of control, which indicates active participation. Experimental group A comprised subjects with a low sense of control, while experimental group B comprised subjects with a high sense of control. Presence was confirmed to affect the presence effect, and the presence effect was confirmed to affect brand relationship quality and brand attitude. However, only experimental group B showed the influence of presence effect on word-of-mouth intention. Furthermore, brand relationship quality was confirmed to affect brand attribute and word-of-mouth intention. In terms of direct path, brand relationship quality was confirmed to influence word-of-mouth intention most strongly. Presence influenced the presence effect, and brand relationship quality influenced brand attitude. The moderating effect was found to be statistically significant in the five paths (Presence → Presence Effect; Presence Effect → Brand Relationship Quality; Presence Effect → Brand Attitude; Presence Effect → Word-of-mouth Intention; Brand Relationship Quality → Brand Attitude). Experimental group A showed higher values in the Presence → Presence Effect and Presence Effect → Brand Attitude paths. The presence effect had a greater impact on brand relationship quality in experimental group B than in experimental group A, and brand relationship quality had a great impact on brand attitude. We confirmed that the presence effect directly influenced word-of-mouth intention. Regarding the mediated effect in the final model, the presence effect directly and indirectly affects word-of-mouth intention and brand attitude. Word-of-mouth intention was indirectly affected in the mediation with brand relationship quality more strongly than it was directly affected, whereas brand attitude showed a greater direct effect than when it was mediated with brand relationship quality. The results confirmed that a high sense of control in the presence experience can have a greater effect on brand relationship formation, while a low sense of control can have only a temporary effect (such as simple pleasure), which is difficult to develop into brand relationship formation. This study is significant in that it provides theoretical and practical implications for the strategic use of trans-media based on the correlations of relational variables with brand management.
