Era of Affect : A Combined Model of Affect and Advertising Effects

  • Kim, Minjung
  • Chin, HongKun
This study focuses on the role of affect that has been neglected as an advertising effect. This study points out the limitations and problems of the previous studies. Some studies assumed that affect does not affect an individual’s decision making, while others assumed that affect serve a role as information. Initial studies on affect had focused on defining the concept of affects, and currently shifted their focus on its role as information for decisions and judgments of individuals. However, due to controversy related to the operational definition of affects and study methods, no consistent study results were found. This study argues the necessity to examine how affects affect human information processing. This study also discusses the latest trends of affect studies focused on knowledge and empirical dimensions, the results of the study, and their possibilities as well. This study discusses how affects as a learned response functions in knowledge and experience. This study focuses on inherent affects that are associated with 'self confidence' of subject knowledge and 'brand experience' as a remarkable response to each brand. Finally, this study suggests an alternative affect model combined with knowledge and experience by integrating previous studies.
