The purpose of the study is to explore the effect of embodied cognition on prosocialbehavior and the moderating role of moral identity. For this, Study 1 examined how moving up or down affects participant’s temporal moral self-worth. Participants were asked to imagine that they are riding an elevator and moving up or down. Their pre- and post-moral self-worth were measured. Results show that moral self-worth of moving up elevator condition increased while moral self-worth of moving down elevator condition decreased (H1 is supported). Study 2 was performed to explore the effect of embodied cognition of moving up or down on donation behavior and moderating role of intrinsic moralidentity. Findings indicate that the amount of donation of moving down elevator conditionwas more than that of moving up elevator condition (H2 is supported). This effect was foundonly for those whose intrinsic moral identity is low but, for those whose intrinsic moral identity is high, the amount of donation was not different between moving down and moving up elevator conditions, confirming the moderating effect of intrinsic moral identity (H3 is supported). This study is expected to provide implications for extending relevant literature and promotion strategies to increase prosocial behavior.
