Cultural Differences between Millennials and Older Generations

  • Jong Woo JUN
This study explored differences between millennial generation and their parent generation. The survey research illustrated that millennials showed culturally different orientations compared to their parent generation. More specifically, power distance is not statistically different. Parent generation showed higher tendency on uncertainty avoidance. However, millennial generation tend to be more individualistic, and older generation was to be more collective. Millennials showed higher scores on feminity, and older generation showed higher tendency on the masculinity dimension. Holistic thinking, the other cultural dimension, was more found in the culture of older generation. These results could provide academic implications on generation gaps of cultural orientation, and also provide managerial implications on advertising and marketing perspective.
