This study is to investigate the differences in consumers' perception of informational usefulness to make a purchase intention according to the types of online product reviews (negative vs. positive / factual vs. evaluative), and the current study also explores the moderating roles of self-construal in the mechanism. The findings show that consumers' perception of informational usefulness is the highest when the type of online product reviews is negative, and the difference between the positive online reviews and the negative online reviews on the perception of information usefulness is greater in the case of factual information than in evaluative information. As a result of examining differences in the effects of user reviews according to the self-construal theory, a significant interaction effect was found. In the case of negative online reviews in recognition of information usefulness of independent self-construal, there was a significant difference between factual information and evaluative information. On the other hand, in the case of interdependent participants, there was no significant difference between the types of reviews. This study demonstrates the difference in the effect of the types of online product reviews on consumers' decision-making, and this study suggests the implications of the concept of self-construal in establishing an online communication strategy.
